Progress Update

Its been a good start to the year with beautiful weather and fantastic friends to share the ride with.  Sadly some don't have their companions to share the journey with any longer as cancer has claimed them.

Today I was reminded of this as we phoned a friend after our "usual" Wednesday's for a Reason ride over coffee.   Good to see Barry in great spirits after breaking is collar bone in a mountain biking accident earlier this year.

I'm progressing towards my goal of 750km and 7500m of climbing in January.  I've covered 441km so far and climbed 5,310m with a little over half the month to go!  I think I might be able to stretch to 10,000m of climbing for the month and should achieve my distance goal.

Riding with the Wednesday crew reminds me that living with a cancer diagnosis is a team effort and your support means the team gets stronger.

Thank you for your support!

2 days in and hitting some targets

A quick update.  It's the 2nd of January and I've been busy on the bike having completed 10% of my climbing and distance challenges.

Riding solo is a great time to reflect and think about the experiences that 2020 brought.  It definitely proved that we are more resilient than we thought, but the power of each other's presence to keep us mentally fit is something to be reckoned with.

I'm so grateful to have had a group of fellow RFAR's to ride with through the chilly winter days as we came out of lock down.

A crew for all seasons

What a crew of fellow RFAR riders I've had the privilege of riding with through this year!

We've shared some highs and lows through this pandemic.

Every Wednesday I look forward to rolling out of bed at 5:40 am to gear up to meet these guys at the Cancer Council car park for 6:15 am.  Some days when we've rolled out we wonder why as we struggled to feel our fingers, other days it's just an absolute joy to ride in mild, windless weather and be thankful for the place we live.

Best of all is sharing life over coffee after a ride with people who have become good friends.

I'm Riding for a reason in January 2021

I am dedicating this January to ride as many km’s as I can to support the many South Australians impacted by cancer. Did you know that every day 28 South Australians hear the words ‘You have cancer’.

The money raised through Ride for a reason enables Cancer Council to fund vital prevention, research, advocacy and support programs that save lives.

With one in two Australians diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, the need to find better ways to detect and treat cancer is real.

Donate to support my ride so together we can work towards a cancer free future!
