I'm Riding for a reason in January

It has been almost 2 years since I was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. A lot has happened including 6 months chemo, 1 bowel surgery and 2 liver resections. Currently in remission but who knows how long this would last! So while I am still fit and healthy, I am dedicating this January to ride as many km’s as I can to support the many South Australians impacted by cancer. 

The money raised through Ride for a reason enables Cancer Council to fund vital prevention, research, advocacy and support programs that save lives.

With one in two Australians diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, the need to find better ways to detect and treat cancer is real.

4th Update on RFAR 2022 (6/2/2022)

Sunday 6th Feb
A comment from one of my peers: "You must have very good social skills to receive many sponsorships from your networks for your fundraising". Well, I am not sure about my social skills but one thing that I am pretty sure is I have been very lucky and blessed to be surrounded with a good circle of loved ones. My goal was to raise $1000 for the SA Cancer Council by riding 1000 km in January. Today I checked the leaderboards and it is fascinating to see I still maintain a champion position on the leaderboards with the current amount of $7186 and placed second as a team "The Odd Couple".
I wish to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to these latest sponsors who have kindly responded to my appeal for this fundraising: Peter Cassidy, Leanne Haller, Mark Davis, Brian Ng, Amanda Sim, Rachael, Prashan, Dylan Stringer, Charles Ong, Fangxi Xie, Michael Malavazos, Jim Stamos, Handoko Putra, Narongsak Tonmukayakul, Kai Meng Theu and Gideon Kuncoro.

3rd Update on RFAR 2022 (22/01/2022)

Monday 24th Jan
It was a very wet day. My escort Mad Mick Sturges and I agreed that we shouldn’t ride today as well as tomorrow due to wet weather but both were naughty and sneaked out to do a solo ride. Crazy Yung Ngothai did 74 km without mad Mick and you can see from some of the photos how drenched and dirty I was when I arrived home.
802 km out of 1000 km for this January. 198 km to ride over the next 9 days. $3,930 out of $1,000 target…. I know I have exceeded my target but please don’t let that stop you from your generous heart and have your name tag on my donation page ???? so that I can feel the love from you ?????
This is my second year doing this fundraising and I would be lucky if I can continue for another 3 years at most ???.

2nd Update on RFAR 2022 (18/01/2022)

Monday 24th Jan
I aimed to raise $1000 for SA Cancer Council by riding 1000 km during this January. The positive supports I received to date is overwhelming ($3699). I know it is not a competition which participant to raise the highest amount. However, I am still very happy and grateful to see I am currently Number 1 on the leaderboards. The loves and supports from near and far continue to pour in.
Today I rode 123 km with 1137 m climbing. It is almost like a full time job. Left home at 9:15 am and back at 6:30 pm. It was a very windy day but good weather. I managed to climb up Willunga hill without stopping for Air ???. When I did it the first time in April 2021, I had to stop 10 times and threw up three times. Seems like I am getting fitter now.

The maximum weather forecast for today was 29 C but somehow during the ride it reached 39 C. It was tough to ride in the heat but I managed to complete this 1st ride with bodyguard Micky. Thank you for your company Mick. 106 km so 894 km more to be completed by the end of January….
