Last chance for early bird registrations for Bupa Challenge Tour
Cyclists riding in the 2014 Bupa Challenge Tour from Unley to Victor Harbor have a week to take advantage of early bird registration discounts and to go in the running for the ultimate Tour hospitality package.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell says early bird registrations close at 5pm on Tuesday, 30 July, and he is encouraging riders to get sign up early.
As part of the 2014 event, participants will again ride the same Stage 4 route as the pros with the choice of four different start locations and distances, all finishing at Victor Harbor. Mr Bignell says Unley will be a fantastic start location before the riders head through the Adelaide Hills and down the Fleurieu Peninsula.
“Riders looking for the ultimate challenge can do the full 154.5km route from Unley to Victor Harbor, or opt for the shorter distances starting at Meadows, Mt Compass or Yankalilla,” Mr Bignell said.
“Everyone that takes up early bird registration will go into the draw for an eight day Santos Tour Down Under VIP package including airfares and accommodation.
“We hope the early bird incentives will encourage local, interstate and overseas supporters to commit and register now.”
In an event first, 2014 registered participants will have their ride time recorded and published in The Advertiser. Race Director Mike Turtur said the course was designed to challenge those recreational riders tackling the full distance.
“Cyclists will face the challenge of the ŠKODA King of the Mountain at Reservoir Road near Myponga Dam, having them test their lungs and their legs as they take in some spectacular scenery,” Mr Turtur said.
Event sponsor Bupa Health Insurance say they are excited to be continuing their involvement in the Santos Tour Down Under through the Bupa Challenge Tour.
“The Bupa Challenge Tour provides the perfect opportunity to promote our long-term goal of helping people lead longer, healthier, happier lives by encouraging them to make positive lifestyle choices,” Daniel Gallagher, General Manager for South Australia, said.
“The beauty of the Bupa Challenge Tour is that it enables people of varying fitness levels, from casual to experienced cyclists, to ride in the slipstream of the world’s cycling elite.
“The ‘Bupa Troopas’ will also be on-hand to support and motivate people to the finish line, where they can enjoy a well deserved time-out at the Bupa Chill Zone.”
Teams of five riders or more can register and have their team name printed on their jersey as well as go into the draw to win VIP hospitality tickets to Stage 6 of the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under.
The Santos Tour Down Under is pleased to continue collaborating with Cancer Council SA, the official charity partner of the event and encourages all participants to Ride for a Reason. The Cancer Council SA’s Ride for a Reason initiative is a great way to become involved and raise important funds for cancer research.
