Terms & Conditions
Ride for a reason Terms & Conditions of Participation
In consideration of my application for entry into Ride for a reason 2024 being accepted, I accept these terms and conditions of participation in the event, intending to be legally bound for myself and my successors, executors and administrators.
‘Ride for a reason’ includes all activities relating to Ride for a reason, whether occurring before, during or after the event, and whether organised by Cancer Council or any other party (including me).
I understand that participants under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian read and accept these terms and conditions of entry on their behalf.
Cancer Council reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to refuse your registration in Ride for a reason or to disqualify you from Ride for a reason for breach of these terms and conditions or for any other reason Cancer Council determines appropriate.
Event participation
I understand that Ride for a reason is a personal challenge event whereby I nominate how many kilometres I will ride during the month of January 2024. Ride for a reason is not a race. However, while there are no ‘winners’, the leader board on the website will display the names of participants who have raised the most money and ridden the most Km’s. I acknowledge that I am responsible for tracking my Kilometres and updating my personal fundraising page.
Ride for a reason team ride
Before undertaking a Cancer Council SA Ride for a reason team ride, I;
I declare that my physical fitness is sufficient to undertake the Community Rides;
I acknowledge that all physical activity, including cycling, has risks associated with it that may cause me personal injury or damage to property, whether caused by my actions or omissions or those of others;
I accept The Anti-Cancer Foundation of South Australia, trading as Cancer Council SA, may exclude me from the event or cancel the event at any stage and for any reason;
I authorise Cancer Council SA to obtain medical attention of any type for me at my cost if an incident occurs and I am unable or unwilling to procure treatment;
I waive, release, discharge and indemnify now and into the future Cancer Council SA, its officers, employees, contractors, volunteers and agents against any claim I may have or any third party claim I may cause arising for any reason from my participation in the event;
Photographic consent
I acknowledge that in the course of Ride for a reason, photographs, images or film may be taken of me, either alone or in group shots with others (Personal Material). I agree to the use of my name, image in these photographs, images or film and for their use by any Cancer Council and any of their assignees or licensees for any purpose (including publicity, merchandising, editorial, education and fundraising) in any country and by any form of media without qualification (e.g. newspapers, magazines, other print publications, radio and television broadcasts, websites, webinars, podcasts and vodcasts) in perpetuity. I also agree that the photographs or film may be used by third party media organisations in connection with the reporting of Ride for a reason. I agree that any use by Cancer Council of Personal Material will be without payment to me and without seeking my consent;
Physical Risk Notice
Ride for a reason is an event that involves physical exertion and as such has certain inherent risks associated with the activity. I acknowledge that all physical activity, including cycling, has risks associated with it that may cause me personal injury or damage to property, whether caused by my actions or omissions or those of others.
I understand that Cancer Council recommends that I consult a doctor particularly if I have ever experienced a heart condition, stroke, unexplained chest pains, faintness, dizziness, shortness of breath, severe asthma, diabetes, muscle, joint or bone problems or any other medical conditions that may make it dangerous for me to participate in physical activity and/or if I am in any doubt as to my fitness and whether to participate.
Regardless of whether I have consulted a doctor, I agree that by participating in Ride for a reason, I do so entirely at my own risk. I verify that I am in proper physical and mental condition to participate in Ride for a reason and acknowledge that I am aware of the risks involved and voluntarily agree to assume those risks.
I understand that Cancer Council has obtained no personal accident insurance covering my participation in Ride for a reason.
