Volunteer Roles

Cancer Council SA will again be the Official Charity Partner for the Tour and we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who will partner with us during the Santos Tour Down Under.

Logistics (Driver & Site Setup)

Description of the role

This role requires volunteers to drive Cancer Council SA vehicles to transport equipment to and from the race each day and to set up and pack down Cancer Council SA marquees at the start and finish location of each stage of the Tour.

Main responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator and site-assigned Cancer Council SA Ambassador
  • Drive Cancer Council SA branded cars (all cars are automatic)
  • Transport equipment to and from the race start and finish lines
  • Set up and pack down of Cancer Council SA marquees
  • Liaise with On Ground volunteers

Useful Skills

  • Current Australian Driver’s License (required)
  • Ability to lift and unpack large equipment (required)
  • Basic knowledge of Adelaide CBD and surrounding suburban roads
  • Basic WH&S and manual handling knowledge

On Ground Volunteers

Description of the role

This role requires volunteers to be the ‘public face’ of Cancer Council SA during the Santos Tour Down Under.  Volunteers will engage with the community by offering free sunscreen and collecting donations.

Main responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of assigned Cancer Council SA Ambassador
  • Distribute free sunscreen and promotional material to race spectators
  • Engage with race spectators and receive donations that will support the fight against cancer

Useful Skills

  • Outgoing, friendly and personable manner
  • Confidence in speaking to people you do not know
  • Basic knowledge of SunSmart policy (further information will be provided during training)
  • Note: this role involves large amounts of walking and standing
