January Distance Challenge

My Activity Tracking

My target 1200kms

A big thank you to wrap up a month of Riding for a Reason!

Thank you to all of my sponsors and supporters of my Ride for a Reason during January.  Together we raised $1,721.54 for the Cancer Council.

Together with my friends Dean, Tony, Tobias & Barry in our Wednesdays for a Reason team, we raised $14,497.

Along the way, I rode 1932.7 km (1200.1 mi)
   and climbed 18,128 m (59,475 ft)
      in 87 hr 23 min

Today I passed the distance of 1000 miles (1610 km) of bike riding

It felt good to surpass 1000 miles of riding in January. With a few more days to go, I will set a substantial new personal record for the month of January. My fundraising isn’t done yet either.

First goal achieved! So far this month I have ridden 1201 km. ... It was nice this morning to share the ride with my “Wednesdays for a Reason” team. By chance, we were riding in four different years of jerseys. Please contribute to the Cancer Council.

Hurray for my friend Yung

Today my friend Yung achieved her pledge to ride 500 km in January, 12 days early. She is a cancer patient who has shown a wonderfully positive attitude and resolve. Last year she endured 6 months of chemotherapy and had surgery to remove part of her bowel. It was great to be there when she achieved her goal.

Milestone of 1000 km reached

Today I passed 1000 km total distance ridden in January.  That's 5/6 of the distance I pledged to ride.  Barring unforeseen chalenges I'll surpass 1200 km easily, and may even ride 1000 miles this month.  At times the riding has been challenging, particularly on longer rides that involve a lot of climbing. On the 8th of january, I rode through Brukunga and travelled 113 km while climbing over 2150 metres.

As uncomfortable as the riding can be, it is surely insignificant compared to the pain and mental strain that many cancer sufferers experience.

I have dedicated my rides this month to three people I know, and their families, who are currently dealing with life-threatening cancers.  I wear an armband each ride to remind me of their challenges.  They are my personal motivators this year, but I have known many people who have struggled with cancer and some who have died.

Virtually everyone will be affected by life threatening cancer - themselves, a family member, a close friend or a workmate.  The Cancer Council is working to support cancer sufferers and future when its impact is much diminished and hopefully overcome.

I hope you will consider making a contribution to the Cancer Council to support their work to support cancer sufferers and their families directly (including counselling services), education about cancer, support for cancer research and advocacy.

I'm Riding for a reason in January

I am dedicating this January to ride as many km’s as I can to support the many South Australians impacted by cancer. Did you know that every day 28 South Australians hear the words ‘You have cancer’.

Each year I have friends who are confronting huge challenges in dealing with cancer, either themselves or a close family member.  This year is no different. That's why I ride and raise awareness of the good work that the Cancer Council does.

The money raised through Ride for a Reason enables Cancer Council to fund vital prevention, research, advocacy and support programs that save lives.

With one in two Australians diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, the need to find better ways to detect and treat cancer is real.

Donate to support my ride so together we can work towards a cancer free future!
